Writers perspective: watching movies and shows

I firmly believe that a writer’s brain never switches off the writer’s mode. As a writer I realized that no matter which show or movie I am watching, my mind constantly judges, analyzes and observes every story being shown.

Whenever I sit for watching something in my leisure time, I decide that today I will watch this show or movie only for pure entertainment. However my brain wanders off in that very direction where I don’t want to reach. ‘The story is too good, the writer has written every scene with meticulous detail‘, ‘the character arc of every person is this and that‘, ‘the emotional depth of the story is so inspiring‘, ‘the climax was full of unexpected twists, I should learn to write this way‘, ‘Oh! the protagonist and antagonist are so layered in terms of characteristics.‘ These random thoughts come to my mind and I regret sometimes that this shouldn’t happen, because instead of relaxing while watching a show or movie, I am continuously working as a writer. Sometimes if an idea strikes at the time of watching, if the note taking stationery is nearby I can approach it quickly, but if not, I have to keep it in my mind and later jot down somewhere.

But nowadays I tell myself, that it happens to every author and they will highly relate with this. Since writing is one such field where constant modifications and improvements happen in our projects and I feel that its perfectly alright even if our writer’s mode doesn’t switch off. Thinking from a writer’s perspective, it is irritating but it is fun too!
