3 reasons why I still prefer notebook and pen for writing

In the era of using digital technology for every work, I still prefer notebooks, pen, sheets, highlighters and markers for writing. There is a different comfort in using this traditional method for noting down ideas, designing character maps and planning the plot. While many authors have completely switched to using only laptops or tabs there are others too who enjoy scribbling on sheets in the messiest ways they can.

Well for me, there are three specific reasons why I still like doing that –

  1. Creativity boost: sometimes I feel that using colorful stationery boosts my creativity in bringing out the right plot I want to work on. Writing with hand in the notebook acts as a subtle trigger which helps us organize everything into one place and we don’t have to worry constantly about storage space and any files being deleted, which happens in devices.
  2. Whichever way I want to write: when I use notebooks I can prepare an entire book’s plot in the messiest ways I can or if in a different mood I may write down everything in the most disciplined and organized manner. The choice remains mine.
  3. Reduces screen exposure: using the traditional method helps significantly reduce screen exposure which is good for the eyes and renders less irritable mood which results from staring at the screen for long. Post planning the story, it helps to directly start writing the draft in laptop without wasting time in thinking by just blankly looking at the screen.

These are the reasons why I prefer the traditional method for writing and will continue to do so, because after all this is the most suitable way for me!
